  1. Disconnect the ECM connector E (31P) and the ABS control unit 31P connector. Make sure the PGM Tester is disconnected from the DLC.
  1. Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and body ground.

DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)

Is there continuity?

YES - Repair short in the wire between the DLC terminal No. 7 and the ECM (E23).

NO - Go to step 9.

  1. Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and ECM terminal E23.

Is there continuity?

YES - Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck (see page 11-5). If symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.

NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the ECM (E23).

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  1. Disconnect the ECM connector E (31P), and the ABS control unit 31P connector. Make sure the PGM Tester is disconnected from the DLC.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  1. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and the No. 7.

Is there about 0 V?

YES - Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck (see page 11-5). If symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.

NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and ECM (E23).
