Is there battery voltage when the shift lever is in position and 0 V when the sift lever out of ?

YES - Go to step 15.

NO - Go to step 17.

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the shift lock solenoid connector (2P) on the shift lever bracket base.
  2. Connect the battery positive terminal to the No. 1 terminal of the shift lock solenoid connector (2P) and connect the battery negative terminal to the No. 2 terminal.

NOTE: Do not connect the battery positive terminal to the No. 2 terminal or you will damage the diode inside the shift lock solenoid.

Does the shift lock solenoid operate properly?

YES - Check that the shift lock mechanism works properly. If the mechanism does not work, repair or replace the shift lever assembly.

NO - Check for an open in the shift lock solenoid wires between 6P connector terminals and 2P connector terminal in the D3 switch/shift lock solenoid harness. IF the wires are OK, replace the shift lock solenoid.
